New roof installation
The best time to resolve a difficult roof detail is before the roof is built.

Coordinate the layers early
New construction and additions need a roof assembly coordinated with the structure, insulation strategy and exterior walls. Slope, drainage routes and penetrations should be settled before installation begins. The deck and underlayment form the substrate for the finished roof; neither can compensate for unresolved structural or moisture-design issues.
Give transitions room to work
A porch tying into a wall or an addition joining an existing roof can create awkward drainage points. Details need room for proper roof-to-wall flashing, suitable clearances and reliable laps. Review these intersections alongside porch and outbuilding roofs instead of treating them as afterthoughts.
Specify a complete system
Fasteners, edge details, ventilation and coverings must suit the chosen assembly and exposure. Standing seam metal and low-slope systems have different substrate and detailing needs. Confirm material compatibility and applicable requirements with the project team before the installation sequence is finalized.
