Roof ventilation & insulation
A healthy attic depends on how air, heat and moisture move through the whole assembly.

Balance intake and exhaust
On a vented roof, a ridge vent needs an appropriate intake path, often at the soffits. Blocked airflow or an isolated exhaust opening can undermine the intended arrangement. Ridge vent installation should be considered with roof geometry, available openings and ridge condition, rather than simply adding more vent products.
Keep heat and moisture in view
Air leakage from living spaces, missing insulation and misplaced exhaust ducts can contribute to attic moisture. Roof leaks must also be ruled out. Insulation improvements should preserve required airflow in a vented assembly; unvented assemblies have different requirements and need an appropriately designed moisture-control strategy.
Use reroofing as a planning opportunity
A replacement project can make it easier to address ridge openings and roof details, but ventilation alone will not solve every attic problem. Review observed conditions, air sealing and insulation together. A history of ice-dam damage is a reason to investigate heat loss as well as exterior protection.
